Have you been using our snack bags for years, or are you just getting started? This post has everything you need to know about reusable snack bags.
1. They look so cute, but how do I wash them?
This is probably the most common question we get. Cleaning our snack bags is SO easy. You can toss them in the washing machine and drier. If you need to use them again the next day, you can wash them out in the sink and hang to dry, or just wipe out the inside. Tip: hang a wet bag on your oven door to collect dirty snack bags and other kitchen laundry.
*please do not put snack bags in the dishwasher - the water temp and detergent is not meant for fabric and may cause damage.
2. What can I put in them and how much do they hold?
Our snack bag liner is waterproof and easily contains wetness from sliced fruits and veggies. Think cucumbers, carrot sticks, sliced apples, freshly rinsed grapes... Canned fruits or anything that is really drippy will likely not do so well.
The small snack bags hold 1 full cup - great for anything you pack by the handful. The large snack bag holds 3 cups easily and is the perfect size for sandwiches, bagels, muffins etc. The wide snack bag was designed for cutlery, small wraps, long veggie sticks or your toothbrush and toothpaste.
3. Will my kids lose them?
Honestly, they might. My kids once tried to toboggan down the stairs. Inside the house. Sometimes you just never know with those little ankle biters! There are some things you can do to reduce the dreaded "I don't know where it went". A big one is getting your kids involved in choosing their prints. If they have prints they love, the bag feels like 'theirs' instead of 'yours'. Also, talk about the environmental impact. Most schools spend a fair amount of time talking about taking care of the earth so you may be surprised by their enthusiasm.
4. How many do I need?
I most often send a large and two smalls for a school lunch. I use the wides less often, but they are so handy when I do need them. To get started, I recommend having two sets so you aren't scrambling to wash every single day. But really, start however you can - even if you are just saving one or two plastic bags from the landfill everyday, it still matters. Hint: twice per year we run 'seconds sales' where we sell products that have small cosmetic flaws - this is a great chance to bulk up.
5. Are they food safe?
Yes! We take great pride in ensuring our products are safe for you and your children. Our bags are tested by an independent lab to ensure they meet both Health Canada and FDA food safety standards. Our zippers are lead and nickel free and tested to meet CPSIA non-choking hazard standards. You can buy with confidence knowing your bags are safe.
