No one is doing zero waste perfectly. We are all just here, trying our best and supporting each other in our efforts to reduce single use plastics. We feel like sharing helpful tips is the way to go and we are here to help! If you are reading this, you are likely already interested in doing your part and hopefully these little tips can keep you motivated along the way!
School/Office Lunches
Although we can't get away from making lunches (even though we often wish we could!!) we can definitely reduce the waste we include. I get it, it's so convenient to throw everything in ziplock bags and call it a day but I promise once you start using reusable bags/wraps, you will feel so much better! Start with one snack a day in one of our bags (your kiddos will love the bright fun prints) and work your way up to a whole lunch bag! Once you start, it will be hard to go back!
Reusable Shopping Bags
Grocery shopping isn't something we can avoid but spreading awareness while using stylish tote bags is a great first step! There are so many options out there for market totes that may or may not make you enjoy grocery shopping (haha) , but will definitely make you feel better when checking out! Before I started using reusable grocery bags, I often felt guilty about all the plastic I was bringing home and now I am super pumped when I remember my bags (remembering is the key!) and I'm proud that I took the extra step.
Buy Less
Such a simple tip but it has so much power. When you are shopping, ask yourself if you really need it, or if you have anything similar that would work at home. I often leave things till the last minute and find myself racing into a store and grabbing the first thing I can get my hands on because I'm running out of time. For 2020, I am trying to be more organized and think of local companies that work so hard to produce such amazing little gifts. When you consider gifting handmade local gifts when purchasing for others, it not only allows you to support local companies, but they are normally wrapped in way less junk than regular department store gifts. Consider home made soaps/candles/bath products or even handmade coupons for nights out with your friends! Babysitting, baking, or plants are also up there for amazing gifts with little plastic waste!
Straws
We couldn't be anymore excited that straws aren't "cool" anymore! There is something empowering about saying "no straw please" and pulling out a reusable silicone straw that you keep tucked away in your purse or car. Our wide snack bags are the perfect fit for reusable straws and we offer silicone straws in 2 packs and 4 packs! They are bendy (perfect for kiddos!) and are safe for your teeth and mouth (Dentists approve!)
We just released our new "grey" silicone straw color which comes in a 2 pack or a 4 pack with some other great colors. Check them out here!
There are so many helpful tips out there but getting started with something small will set you up for success!
